heidiv - Chopin Polonaise 26/1: Message Board
heidiv's Comments
A very un-polonaisey Polonaise! Although there are hints of typical Polonaise rhythm, the bulk of the piece (the middle section) is like a daydream. I've always been perplexed by the quiet ending too. Perhaps it's supposed to be like the month of March -- comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Recorded with Zoom H4n on my Steinway L, which desperately needs a tuning :)Post your comments on heidiv's performance!

heidiv | 2010-10-21 18:50:48 | Thanks so much for all of your nice comments. I'm blushing! I must confess that I played this piece about 12 years ago, so it wasn't worked up from scratch for this event. I always find it easier to resurrect old pieces than to learn new. Good advice about the ending LA. I'll try stretching some of those final notes and see if I can make more sense out of the ending. I'm privileged to be in such fine company. :) |

Andy Platt | 2010-10-20 20:22:15 | This is one of my favorite Chopin pieces and you have truly done it justice. I've always felt that the ending has a remarkable quality that, while a little unresolved, gives it the feeling of eternity and you brought that off beautifully. |
timmyab | 2010-10-20 09:01:56 | Very impressive both technically and interpretively.I like the comment about the middle being like a daydream. |
ab-ster | 2010-10-19 20:55:38 | Very nice work heidiv. You and LisztAddict are pros! =) I love the precision, dynamics and elegance of your playing. Nice piano =) |
LisztAddict | 2010-10-19 07:58:24 | I think the ending is fine. Maybe you could take just a tiny little more time on a few notes just before the end. Excellent performance! |
Elene | 2010-10-19 04:29:39 | The first of the "mature" polonaises. It has such an interesting juxtaposition of angry darkness and gentle elegance. I think that middle section still sounds like a polonaise-- think of continuing to strut forward in 3/4, showing oneself off proudly to all those in the ballroom. This piece is indeed a major accomplishment. I enjoyed your performance. |
CMohr | 2010-10-18 15:25:56 | I wasn't familiar with this polonise, and absolutely loved it! One can hear the feeling you've put into this - one I will listen to many times. |
gerg | 2010-10-18 12:20:55 | Absolutely sublime playing, full of the strong but reserved feeling that has become your trademark, and so well-suited for Chopin. Heidi teaches, and does indeed have serious skill. |
Inlanding | 2010-10-18 11:14:02 | Wow, Heidi! You did so very well with this not as often heard Polonaise. Your thoughtful interpretation is paired quite nicely with your wonderful skills. Very impressive. I very much enjoy listening to this repeatedly, Heidi. Thank you for your music. |
Strings&Wood | 2010-10-18 10:07:32 | Well done, a major accomplishment. I enjoyed your performance greatly! |
Mistaya | 2010-10-17 23:19:35 | Thank you for the introduction to this piece - I hadn't heard it before either - and you have some serious skills - thank you for sharing them. Beautiful. |
AnotherSchmoe | 2010-10-17 13:31:54 | Lovely! You are right, it is very much a dreamy piece. I hadn't heard this one before and greatly enjoyed hearing you play it. You are braver than I, that's for sure. I don't know that I could ever record this lengthy a piece without tearing all of my hair out in the process, I have a hard enough time holding a short piece together without it all falling apart under my hands. =D Grand work and thanks for sharing! |
liszt85 | 2010-10-17 12:09:29 | Nice playing! Enjoyed it thoroughly. |
