dannylux - Cui Prelude in F Sharp Major 64/13: Message Board

dannylux's Comments

César Cui's music has been all but ignored for a long time. His 25 Preludes In All The Keys is a really enjoyable set. The No.2 Prelude in e minor approaches Chopin's e minor Prelude in loveliness and is no more difficult to play. Here I play my favorite of the set, the No.13 in F# Major.

I recorded it at a fairly low level because it starts out quietly, but gets very, very loud.

Carey 2011-08-30 15:41:03 Nice recorded sound !!!! This is a gorgeous piece indeed !!! Well played !!!
Mel 2011-08-21 16:24:43 Thanks for your kind words, Julian. Yes, the set starts in C and ends in C, so 25 rather than the usual 24.
Julian (SlatterFan) 2011-08-20 20:02:44 What a big piece (in all ways) to be called "prelude"! I love the way the intensity naturally builds from the tender beginning. Lovely playing. Okay, Cui Op.64, noted.

(By the way, I have to ask -- *25* preludes in all the keys? Does Cui finish the set in the same key he started, to complete the cycle/circle?)
Greg 2011-08-20 13:18:44 I enjoyed this gentle and tranquil piece. You always have such interesting work to share.

Thanks for introducing us to Cui! Would be interesting to look into some of those other preludes.
