SlatterFan - Fibich Images 41/11: Message Board

SlatterFan's Comments

Zdeněk Fibich (1850-1900) was a Czech composer who wrote symphonies (I think the slow movement of the 2nd is heavenly), operas, chamber music, and numerous short pieces for solo piano. His Nálady, Dojmy a Upomínky (Images, Impressions and Souvenirs) for piano were often written in bursts and served as a kind of diary of his love for a former piano pupil who became his lover in the last 5 years of his life. The 41 images of his Op. 41 were composed in two such bursts in 1894, from late February to mid-March, and late September to early October. I have recorded a few of my favorites:

11 Andante (G major)
20 Grave (G minor)
32 Allegretto giocoso (G major)
33 Con moto (C major)

Carey 2011-08-30 15:35:38 Particularly liked your renditions of the "Grave" and "Con Moto" - but all four were most enjoyable to hear !! Great job !!
Inlanding 2011-08-24 22:07:08 Great choice you made with Fibich You have motivated me to learn to play his Poem. Very fine playing, Julian! Thank you!
Mel / dannylux 2011-08-24 14:25:18 Nice selection, Julian, and beautifully played.
Greg 2011-08-20 18:18:32 Delightful, romantic, almost whimsical feel, esp. that last movement.

Rather structured for "Images", but very much in-line with Fibich's times.

Thanks SlatterFan!
