justarobert - Medtner Sonata Tragica 39/5: Message Board

justarobert's Comments

Note: not recorded in one take. Also, my interpretation in the cadenza has changed a fair bit since the recording. Obviously, it still needs work.

It was a pleasure hearing your rendition of this very difficult sonata, and you played it with artistry throughout. Adding this work to your repertoire is a major accomplishment. Bravo!

Cinnamonbear 2011-08-20 18:01:50 Wow! What a cool piece to have in your repertoire! It seems to have a little of something of everything in it, and your rendering of it here is very satisfying and captivating. It's always a blast to hear a pianst go all out and leave nothing behind! BTW, since there is no such thing as a perfect performance, and every performance is different than the last, I could care less if this was done in one take or twenty! I am glad to have heard it! Thanks for posting it!
Julian (SlatterFan) 2011-08-20 13:01:20 I never heard this work until today, and I like it straight away. Your playing has wonderful passion and drive, grabbing attention right from the beginning. I think I'd like the second theme to have more flexible rhythm, including its "gypsy"-style mini-development, but apart from that, I really liked your interpretation. Thanks!
