dannylux - Nicolai Etude 'Greetings to Liszt' 40/3: Message Board

dannylux's Comments

Otto Nicolai (1810-1849) is remembered, if at all, for writing The Merry Wives of Windsor, for founding the Vienna Philharmonic, and for having the same dates as Chopin.
Nicolai dedicated a series of Etudes to Liszt. His Op.40 No.3 "Gruss an Liszt" (1839) is so lovely that it's impossible to understand why it's completely forgotten. It's a study in bringing out the melody with the weaker fingers of the right hand while the stronger fingers of the right hand and the left hand play the accompaniment.
It took me 5 years of searching to find this extremely rare score.
