Tim Adrianson - Flanagan Piano Sonata: Message Board
Tim Adrianson's Comments
I knew William Flanagan as the Classical music critic for the HiFi Stereo Review magazine, to which I subscribed in the 1960's and early '70's. As a composer, he was best known for his songs, but he did write an early Piano Sonata in 1950, when he was 26. Frankly, I find some of the compositional thought pretty awkward and labored, but there are lots of beautiful lyrical moments that quite clearly forecast his gift for song. As a parenthetical comment, he was well known in the Gay NYC circles as Edward Albee's partner, from the late '40's to the late '50's, when they elected to part ways.Post your comments on Tim Adrianson's performance!
