Tim Adrianson - Fine Variations, from Music for Piano: Message Board
Tim Adrianson's Comments
Irvine Fine was a well-known and respected composer and teacher in the New England area (Brandeis Univ) until his untimely death at age 48 of a heart attack in 1962. His music was both resolutely NeoClassical and very lyrical in his early years, but like many other American composers, he felt the need to develop a harsher, chromatic, almost atonal sound in the '50's and early '60's. The Variations are from a suite of pieces he wrote in 1947, simply entitled "Music for Piano". The entire suite is very charming, but the Variations "movement" is for me quite specially beautiful and touching.Post your comments on Tim Adrianson's performance!
