SlatterFan - Ireland Daydream: Message Board

SlatterFan's Comments

John Ireland (1879-1962) was an English composer who spent most of his life in London. He also taught composition at the Royal College of Music and his pupils included Benjamin Britten. His compositions for solo piano are all late romantic and accessible in style, and are published by Stainer & Bell in five volumes.

Daydream, along with Meridian, was written in the composer's youth and was polished many years later in 1941. It beautifully conveys the fleeting and flitting moods of its title.
