Canonie - Canonie Lucy's Song: Message Board

Canonie's Comments

I would like to dedicate this submission to those musicians who play the works of composers who are beginning, and who may never become heroes at all. Thank you in particular to the three music students who played this composing student's song.

The text is from The Bride of Lammermoor by Walter Scott; it is a recipe for a passive and timid life; "Easy live and quiet die".

Let us play our music and be heard!

Post your comments on Canonie's performance!

canonie 2010-08-23 07:23:28 thank you, and well picked. I sang B. Britten in choirs when i was young. I didn't realise it had crept in. The trouble with composing is that you have no clear idea what the piece is like, due to being inside it.
jotur 2010-08-22 00:49:09 I loved it! It sounded sort of modern opera-ish to me - maybe Peter Grimes-like. I love the way the instruments and voice interact and weave, and the drama. Terrific!
canonie 2010-08-21 22:08:59 Thank you all for listening, and for the interesting feedback. wr, there are a few things I'd change, I wrote it in 2nd year of studies and I was bottom of the composition class (oh well!).
I'm glad I posted this, and am inspired to write for this combination again as it has a lot of potential and is not hard to stage.
heidiv 2010-08-21 21:03:52 Wonderfully constructed! I'm so glad you were able to share this with us!
Inlanding 2010-08-21 19:20:17 This is a marriage of complex music and art. Thank you for this, Canonie!
wr 2010-08-21 04:23:32 Doesn't sound "student" to me; sounds quite a bit beyond that. Good stuff - thanks for uploading it.
Carey 2010-08-20 22:55:19 Impressive work by the composer and performers !!!
Cinnamonbear 2010-08-20 17:37:47 Wow, Canonie! Lucy's Song is so complex in so many ways. Excellent marriage of text and music! Your instrument selection and vocal setting is deeply meaningful!.. This is a beautiful work of art!!!
beet31425 2010-08-20 14:11:57 That was great. Canonie, you are a very gifted composer.
gerg 2010-08-17 23:34:01 You have my undying respect because I know what demands composition exacts.

I hope you receive much praise for this work of art. Someday... you will become a hero... Keep it up, please!
